This article on The Verge about e-bikes is good but highlights something that really bothers me about people in general. As with so many other areas people have to put themselves in camps over things like bikes. I can’t begin to count the number of articles I’ve read about regular bike riders having some superiority complex over those who ride e-bikes. Never mind of course that e-bikes open up biking to those who otherwise wouldn’t be able to ride a bike. Never mind that, as in the case of the article, it makes biking in a hilly area a non-issue. Never mind that in a city it’s a far better option than driving a car.

I bought an e-bike several years ago and it is one of the best purchases I ever made. I can’t reliably ride a regular bike anymore because of some health issues. That isn’t an issue anymore with the e-bike.

This always competitive, always comparing ourselves to others and making value judgements for stupid shit like what type of bike someone rides…it’s a real sickness in society and I wish there were a way to put an end to it.
