You can’t please everyone
Bix Frankonis, responding to my earlier post about self-censorship:
That’s right: whatever you might have thought before today, know that the truly beleaguered identity on the internet and in our society at large right now is “white, male, and straight”.
I hate to say this but this made me laugh out loud when I read it. I never said “white, male, and straight” is either one of those things but Bix is doing exactly what I’m talking about. 😂
Let’s make something abundantly clear here: Bix Frankonis knows nothing about me other than a few posts on the Internet. They know nothing about my lived experience. Yet they’re telling me how I need to have discussions on the Internet and there is no other way to think about it other than their way:
There’s no good-faith argument against either of those points
And I’m the problem? 🤷♂️
The “points” they’re referring to are (their words):
- pointing out white, and often Christian, privilege, and
- pointing out that generally speaking it was white people who supported Trump.
To point 1: the part of the post I took issue with initially was the fact that the person being discussed is Jewish and might have some thoughts about how the situation was being presented.
To point 2: Never argued that wasn’t true. The argument was never about that.
Anyhow, Bix is free to believe what they want. I can’t control that. But what I read was a perfect example of what I’m talking about. Thanks Bix. The funny thing is I would bet Bix and I agree on quite a bit given what I’ve read on their website but we’re clearly never going to find out because I mentioned the unmentionable.
