And if it weren't for the EU they probably wouldn't be today either 😂 (and of course its not going anywhere quite yet). And to be honest, there is nothing wrong with Lightning. It was a huge improvement over the old 30-pin connector and for most people its still just fine. Joking aside about the EU it was just a matter of time as they have slowly been transitioning everything to USB-C. But thats how Apple always operates.
